We’re after a Farm Supervisor.  It’s a critical role for us.  You see, we take the job of being good famers very seriously.  Sure, the outcome is producing plenty of quality milk solids.  But how we produce those milk solids is equally important.   Our supervisor will work alongside their Farm Managers to ensure they make key on farm performance decisions and ensure that all on farm policy is understood and implemented. The Farm Supervisor will be a source of motivation to the Farm Manager, a Coach, a Mentor and someone who continues to inspire the Fortuna Way, living our values and is excited to achieve our vision and strategy.

The role will have the responsibility of overseeing the “on-farm’ management plan for their farms.  Supervising the farms to help achieve profit and production goals and encourage managers to focus on continuous improvement through the use of systems and technology.

Pasture and stock management is vital for a profitable and sustainable business. And we take the job of looking after our four legged team members very seriously.   They need to be healthy for us to succeed and for farming to have a future.

Sustainability is something we all take seriously with the FGL Environmental Strategy. It’s all about the ultimate goal of creating a sustainable future by improving our impact on the environment.

Your other team members (the two legged kind) will be looking to you for leadership and to learn from you.  You’ll be helping your managers keep them busy, engaged and with smiles on their faces.  It’s also critically important that everyone (Including yourself) go home healthy and well at the end of each day.

About you

It goes without saying that you’ll have a passion for farming.  We expect you’ll be dogged, happy to challenge our thinking, present new ideas and always looking to implement improvements.  You’ll want to monitor, measure and report so we know how our business is looking and understand how we can take it higher still.

You’ll be experienced with cows and the day-to-day running of a farm.  You’ll know how farming works and will be able to identify problems that need solving, areas where improvements can be made and have an eye to the future.  It’s all about happy cows and happy people, and you’ll be a champion of both.

Then there’s your knowledge.  We expect you’ll be up to date with Worksafe New Zealand’s Health & Safety laws and regulations.  You’ll know all about compliance issues, in particular Environmental Management.  And you’ll definitely know all about animal nutrition and pasture management.

You also be willing to get your hands dirty when needed, lending support for Managers, both in the shed, on farm and with the paperwork.

You’ll be the type that likes to roll your sleeves up, get stuck in, challenge yourself and think differently.  The type that’s smart, inquisitive and engaged.  You’ll be energetic and approach work with a sense of fun and a real ‘can-do’ attitude.

Above all else, you’ll be passionate.  We’re going to make some changes to Farming and you’ll be part of it.

If all of this gets you excited and you’re interested then email peter.bruce@fortunagroup.net.nz
